Fort Funston Family Photos

If you’re looking for a beautiful spot for your next session, I recommend looking through these Fort Funston family photos. This is one of my favorite places for sessions because it is both incredibly beautiful but also varied. From the 200ft bluffs that overlook the ocean, down to the succulent covered sand dunes and the open and expansive beach, there are so many beautiful spots to stop and photograph at this location.

Weather and Terrain Considerations

Like all coastal locations, the weather here can be hit or miss. It can get really windy which makes it a popular spot for hang-gliders but not super comfortable for photo sessions. There are some weather apps and webcams that we can keep an eye on leading up to your session to make sure it will be comfortable for you but it helps to be flexible if you’re wanting photos here. For this session we got lucky with sun in the beginning but it turned to dark clouds by the end of the session. Some things to note about this location – the steps down to the beach are steep and you’re descending 200ft somewhat quickly. Getting down isn’t too difficult but getting back up can be painful so if you have kids be prepared to carry them, if you’re pregnant make sure you’re up for that ahead of time. If not, we can stay at the top, there just won’t be as much variation. For this session we did walk down but didn’t go all the way out to the beach. It was getting dark and we wanted to get some photos up top before it was too dark. I think we got some beautiful images and we had a lot of fun together.
