Cherry Blossoms this year didn’t go quite as planned. The blossoms opened up right around the same time that everything was shutting down because of the virus. Base restrictions in Iwakuni caused many of my local sessions to be cancelled on top of all my sessions that were booked in Tokyo and Kyoto getting cancelled. I was really bummed because this is our last cherry blossom season in Japan and I had so many amazing shoots and trips booked. I know this is the story for so many photographers and it’s certainly been a difficult season to navigate.

Fortunately, I was still able to do a couple local shoots before things fully shut down. This engagement session was one of them and it was so beautiful. We got lucky with a beautiful sunny day and the blossoms in close to full bloom. Our little town in Iwakuni has some amazing cherry blossom spots that aren’t nearly as crowded or touristy as some of the big cities and were even less so this year. As of now we can’t go off base except to run errands and I really miss the freedom to move about. I know this will pass and even if things don’t fully return to normal, we will adjust to whatever is next. I’m so glad I got to do this shoot and I can’t wait to do more Japan engagement sessions when things open back up!
